DIY CoolSculpting

Countless men and women around the globe have frozen their fat cells using CoolSculpting. Unfortunately, as the popularity of this advanced cooling technology grows, a disturbing trend emerges. DIY CoolSculpting or CoolSculpting at home is on the rise, and it is hazardous for anyone who attempts it.

Learn more about the problematic DIY CoolSculpting trends and why they should be avoided.

How Does CoolSculpting Reduce Stubborn Fat?

The science behind CoolSculpting, Cryolipolysis, is responsible for the transformative fat reduction of CoolSculpting. This scientifically developed method reduces fat cells because they are more susceptible to cold temperatures than skin cells. This is how the skin and surrounding tissue remain unharmed during a safe, professional CoolSculpting treatment.

During treatments, an area of the body like the abdomen or the thighs is gently drawn up into a precisely contoured applicator using a vacuum mechanism. The applicator’s suction is an essential part of the procedure because it draws the subcutaneous fat cells to the surface, keeping them in place.

Once the treatment area is drawn up into the applicator, the CoolSculpting machine delivers cold air at a precisely controlled and consistent temperature, specifically between 39- and 41-degrees Fahrenheit. This cooling does not actually freeze the fat cells but instead chills them until they are damaged beyond repair.

Once damaged, fat cells no longer perform their job. They are collected and process out of the body as a form of waste.

Why DIY CoolSculpting is Impossible and Dangerous

People think that they can CoolSculpt at home using ice packs. These individuals believe the ice packs can mimic the results of a professional CoolSculpting treatment. There are, however, several reasons why DIY CoolSculpting is ineffective and dangerous.

DIY CoolSculpting Lacks Consistent Temperatures

It is impossible to chill your own fat using ice packs. Ice packs cannot maintain a precise, controlled temperature. In fact, when you place the ice pack on the skin, the body begins to transfer its heat onto the ice. This process causes the temperature of the ice pack to get warmer and warmer.

DIY CoolSculpting Doesn’t Provide suction

CoolSculpting at home lacks a vital part of the Cryolipolysis process, suction. Because fat cells are less hardy and more vulnerable to the cold than other cells, the fat cells will move towards warmth when external temperatures become too cold. During a professional CoolSculpting treatment, the applicator can safely pull the skin up into the applicator, drawing the fat cells towards the surface. This cannot be accomplished with DIY CoolSculpting hacks.

CoolSculpting at Home is Dangerous

Ice packs will freeze the skin but never actual fat cells. Because of this, DIY CoolSculpting makes people susceptible to frostbite. Actual CoolSculpting treatments use a proprietary gel pad on the top of the skin to insulate the tissues from the cold. Also, the professional CoolSculpting machine is equipped with several safety mechanisms to protect all patients. Those mechanisms include a temperature gauge to monitor the skin. If the skin’s temperature drops below the safety threshold, the machine will turn off to avoid any damage to the skin.

Using ice packs at home has no safety precautions, leaving people susceptible to dangerous frostbite and thermal injury.

January 23, 2020

Rested and “Rejuvenated” after a short holiday break, the staff and I are quickly realizing, it’s CoolSculpting season! Our January schedule is full of CoolSculpting consultations. The most obvious reason for the increased interest in CoolSculpting is New Year’s resolutions. Many people have decided 2020 is the year to eat right, be active and get a jump start on obtaining a healthier body. Other consultations have come from newly engaged couples. We’ve learned that December is the most popular month to get engaged in the U.S.These brides-to-be (and grooms-to-be!) are thinking ahead to the biggest day in their lives and wanting to feel and look their best in their wedding attire.

When a patient calls us for the first time, they usually don’t know much about CoolSculpting, other than it is a nonsurgical fatloss treatment. These patients have many questions and some anxiety about what to expect. Our number one objective is to put their minds at ease. Being the owner and physician, I meet with every patient during their initial consultation. During this meeting, wediscuss fat loss goals and body areas they are most excited to transform. We explain what to expect the day of treatment, the days following and when they can expect to see results. Along with a customized treatment plan,I want my patients to leave with an understanding of the science and proven technology behind CoolSculpting and why it the world’s #1 fat-reduction procedure.

Whatever the reason, whether a New year’s resolution, an upcoming wedding, or that summer will be upon us in 150 days, we want our patients to feel comfortable, confident and well informed about their decision to get CoolSculpting.
